The church has the plan of a Latin cross, having a single nave of four bays. Each bay has a pair of side chapels. Two of these niches are occupied by entrances, leaving three actual chapels on each side. The piers of the arcades are very wide, and in front of each is a pair of monumental grey travertine Corinthian columns which hold up protruding sections of the internal entablature.
